Wednesday, September 28th, 2022: Senator Rachel May visited our 4th-grade students. She discussed the importance of the electoral process, her duties and responsibilities, and the impact of her work on the community. She also toured our school, meeting with our Dean, Mr. Frisina, to further discuss funding for students and the positive impact of music and physical education programs in schools.
Thank you, Senator May, for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to our Atoms!
Tuesday, September 27th, 2022: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Middle school hosted its first Back To School Night! Parents were able to see the new classrooms and meet all of the teachers and staff members.
We’re looking forward to a successful school year. Good luck, Atoms!
Thursday, September 15th, 2022: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary School Atoms made their mark on International Dot Day! This is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration. Students listened to a read-aloud of "The Dot," showcased their creativity by creating their own dots, and participated in a live stream with the author, Peter H. Reynolds, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Great job, Atoms!
Friday, September 16th, 2022: Hola! National Hispanic Heritage Month began September 15th. It’s celebrated annually in the United States from September 15 to October 15 to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history and culture that shape the U.S. today. Did you know the observations started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson, but it wasn’t enacted into law until 1988? Each year focuses on a different theme, and this year it’s “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.”
Wednesday, September 7, 2022- Students in Mr. Thayer's second-grade class kicked off the year by creating an All About Me T-Shirt. Each student wrote their name and age on their T-shirt, which they were able to decorate with a self-portrait and pictures of their favorite foods and games. This creative activity helped students learn about their classmates and how each is unique in their own way!

Saturday, June 4th, 2022—The Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school's 5th-grade choir performed a concert that families will remember and talk about for many years. The students sang pieces from traditional folk songs, pop remixes, and their hit original song, Dreams Alive, written in collaboration with Lea Morris - one of the region's finest vocalists.
Dreams Alive draws inspiration not only from the Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school Atoms but from Lea Morris' song, Be the Light, and Amanda Gorman's poem. We invite you to click here to hear this inspirational song, Dreams Alive, by Lea Morris and the Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship 5th-grade choir.
Thursday, June 2nd, 2022—3, 2, 1 BLAST OFF! Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school's 5th and 6th-grade Atoms soar to new heights thanks to Corning, Inc. engineer Timothy Tremba and daughter Taylor.
In preparation for the MOST's Rocket Challenge, Atoms learned from Mr. Tremba his love for rocketry and best practices that will help ensure their making and launching a successful rocket.
It's safe to say this was a 'blast' not only for the Atoms but for Mr. Tremba and Taylor as we all soared to great heights together. Thank you, Mr. Tremba and Taylor, for taking time out of your schedule to visit, speak and teach the Atoms about rockets' science and engineering.
Tuesday, June 14th, 2022—With one week left of school, what more can you do? Why have the best day ever, of course, with a Field Day! Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school students participated in a Field Day event to celebrate their hard work and the end of the school year.
Complete with activities for students of all ages and abilities, Atoms could choose from indoor or outdoor games, water activities, team-building games, and more. On a scorching hot summer day, some of these activities included: making their own slime, getting their faces painted, carnival bounce houses, playing various games, water relay activities, stream machines, and even a teacher dunk tank! In addition to the Field Day activities, students also enjoyed a special cookout where they could have lunch outside with their friends.
We want to thank all the teachers, faculty, and staff who helped coordinate, plan, and make this event possible. This day will inevitably go down as one of the best days ever for the Atoms!

Thursday, June 16th, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school's 5th grade Project Based Learning students tested the laws of physics with an engineering activity, the Egg Drop Challenge. For this STEM activity, Atoms worked together to plan, build and execute an 'eggshell protection system' that would allow their eggs to withstand a fall from a great height.
Thanks to the help of Mr. McGriff, the official 'egg launcher' who went up onto the roof of Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school to drop the eggs for the Atoms. All 5th-grade students were present for the egg launch to observe their experiment and cheer for the four teams.
We are excited that all four teams had successful experiments, and none of the eggs broke during the drop/launch. Congratulations, Atoms!
Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022—To celebrate all their hard work this year, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school’s 4th-grade Atoms participated in a 'Fun Day.'
To kick off Fun Day, Atoms participated in an outdoor Read-A-Thon where they selected their favorite book to read and spent time with their friends and fellow classmates. Following the Read-A-Thon, Atoms could rotate between a game room, dance party, craft activity, or movie and paint celebration.
This Fun Day was the perfect way to conclude the school year and to celebrate all they have accomplished this year.
