Monday, June 10th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse 1B scholars spent the last few weeks of school learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly and eagerly waiting for the classroom caterpillars to hatch into butterflies! Once they did, Atoms completed their butterfly journals and set their lovely butterflies free!
Tuesday, June 11th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Elementary proudly welcomed Julie Murad-Caruso, Community Impact Officer for Empower Federal Credit Union. She taught a lesson to fourth graders on spending, saving, and sharing! Of course, Dollar Dog came to help the Atoms learn about the history of money in the United States and play a fun game with Mr. McGriff.
Thursday, April 18th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Middle School is celebrating academic success! The school held an awards ceremony to recognize the scholar's academic achievements in Quarter 3. Teachers, parents, and students gathered to applaud the accomplishments of these young scholars, acknowledging their efforts and commitment to learning. It was a moment of pride for everyone involved, highlighting the importance of recognizing and encouraging academic success as a cornerstone of education.
Friday, April 26th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse 4th-grade students made chocolate hummus with a guest speaker from Chartwells, Tammy Pittsley. Atoms learned which ingredients go into traditional hummus and how that food affects people's moods when eaten. Then they made chocolate hummus and dipped it in graham crackers.
Monday, April 22nd, 2024: KC Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Atoms partnered up to practice reading their Skills Unit 6 ‘Kit’ book. Here, we have students practicing different reading strategies by using pointer fingers and taking turns reading to each other. The scholars have been working hard to apply the skills they’ve learned when working in groups or independently!
Tuesday, April 9th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse fifth graders had a blast learning about nutrition with Tammy Pittsley! Together, they whipped up some scrumptious strawberry banana smoothies while discussing all the fruity combos you can come up with for a deliciously healthy concoction. Turns out, smoothies are the ultimate blend of yum!
Tuesday, April 9th, 2024: A wave of celebration swept through Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse as 3rd through 5th graders gathered to honor student success from the 2022/2023 NYS Test! Students who soared to level 3 or 4 on the exam were rewarded with gift cards from the Terra Science and Education Foundation, acknowledging their outstanding achievements! Huge thanks to Terra Science for their incredible generosity, and kudos to all our scholars for your dedication and hard work paying off!
Thursday, February 8th, 2024: Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse Middle School celebrated its Quarter 2 awards ceremony, honoring students for academic excellence with merit roll, honor roll, and high honor roll and introducing the first-ever dean's list of students. Congratulations to all!
Wednesday, March 27th, 2024: To culminate Women's History Month, the 5th-grade students at Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse were treated to an enriching experience with the distinguished guest speaker, Lauren Kochian. As the esteemed President of the Museum of Science & Technology in Syracuse, Mrs. Kochian embodies female leadership and achievement. As she graciously told her "herstory," Mrs. Kochian shared her expertise and imparted invaluable insights from her personal journey.
In a moment that resonated deeply with the students, Mrs. Kochian paused to address them directly, providing a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs that have shaped her career. During her engaging presentation, Mrs. Kochian stressed the critical significance of early exposure to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. She emphasized how cultivating STEM skills from a young age lays the foundation for future success in careers and life.

Wednesday, February 28th, 2024: Fifth-grade Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse students visited SUNY ESF. The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry is a public research university that focuses on studying the environment and natural resources. They offer a variety of academic programs for students interested in science, engineering, design, policy, communication, and management of natural resources and the environment.
During their visit, 5th grade classes participated in activities involving Hydrology Exploration, Urban Ecosystems, Paper Science, and Water Cycle Dice. Atoms had lunch together on campus and learned more about the college during an admissions chat with SUNY ESF staff! It was an excellent experience for all and a wonderful addition to our college visit series!
Thursday, February 15th, 2024: Deputy Sheriff James Dixon visited Ms. Camire’s fourth-grade classroom at Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse. Deputy Dixon works with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office. Students learned that the academy is 30 weeks long and consists of hands-on training, many tests, and various certifications. He shared that his duties are to protect and serve the citizens of Onondaga County, enforce the laws of NYS, provide first aid to those in need, and much more!
