Monday, May 23rd, 2022—Inspired by the historic Gees Bend Quilters, the Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship elementary school 6th-grade Student Council members partnered with the non-profit organization Project Linus. Project Linus has provided over 8 million blankets to children in need since 1995.
Student Council members designed individual quilt squares and sent them to Project Linus for the project. In turn, Project Linus was able to create three gorgeous quilts which will bring joy and comfort to the lives of children. Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view additional pictures.

Saturday, May 15th, 2022—SANY Superintendent Dr. Tolga Hayali was honored and celebrated as one of United Way's 100 Heroes. Individuals who aligned with the mission of the United Way and were in healthcare, education, financial stability, volunteerism, advocacy, and leadership were selected.
Over the past six weeks, the United Way released its heroes and shared how each person has impacted the Mohawk Valley community. Dr. Hayali was one of the fifteen education and childcare heroes.
United Way presented each hero with a certificate of acknowledgment and appreciation for their part in the project and a small gift to celebrate each hero. The heroes and their guests met other honored individuals who have made a difference in the Mohawk Valley community.
Congratulations, Dr. Hayali; thank you for all you have done and continue to do to help serve and educate children in Syracuse and Utica. Your hard work, leadership, and tremendous efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you for helping make all the difference in the world. We are Many Atoms, One Family!

Wednesday, May 18th, 2022—The Science Academies of New York (SANY) is excited to announce both Syracuse Academy of Science Charter Schools and Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Charter Schools have received their full five-year extension. Receiving a five-year extension from New York State and the Board of Regents is a tremendous accomplishment and no easy feat. To receive a five-year full-term renewal and/or expansion from New York State and the Board of Regents, charter schools must show a high standard for academic success and financial integrity. All SANY Charter Schools since 2003 have always received a full five-year term. We are glad to see this tradition continuing this year with SAS and Citizenship.

Wednesday, May 4th, 2022—The first week in May, is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Today, SANY would like to take the opportunity to highlight the incredible team of teachers we have at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Charter School.
Each day, Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship Charter School teachers dedicate their time to the success of every student. They provide hope, stability, knowledge, and life lessons and profoundly influence the lives of every Atom they work with daily. Our teachers provide opportunities for students to not only learn through innovative lessons and experiences but continue to grow and succeed.
Please join SANY in honoring our teachers and by sharing your appreciation with them this week and in the weeks and years to come.
Thank you, teachers, for all you do and continue to do for our Atoms and their families. We are Many Atoms, One Family!
Monday, May 2nd, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship 2nd-grade students are all wonders! As they begin their new 'Read to Them' book, 'We're All Wonders,' by R.J. Palacio, the students reflect on what kindness means to them.
The story, 'We're All Wonders,' is about a boy named Auggie, who is like any other child but looks a bit different due to his facial deformities. Since Auggie looks different from other children, many of his classmates make fun of him and treat him with disrespect. When this happens, all Auggie wants to escape on an adventure with Daisy to a world where he feels like he belongs.
Student Teacher, Ms. H, read to the Atoms the story and discussed the story's central theme - choosing to be kind to others above all else. Following the story, all the Atoms and teachers in 2A pledged to choose kindness even when it's hard, when it goes against our friends and when we're feeling bad.
