This program is made available to all students and helps them understand the benefits of responsible money management. To celebrate a year of hard work, Atoms received some sweet treats from Cruisin Cones for a job well done.
Tuesday, June 11, 2019—Lions, Tigers, bears and Atoms (oh my). What better place to go and visit after completing an end of year research project on animals than Onondaga County Park's Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Second grade students enjoyed asking the zoologists about the elephants, and were able to go on a deep sea adventure. Where they discovered how to feed the octopus. Third grade students enjoyed seeing the elephants, penguins, monkeys and the endangered tortoise. Thank you, Rosamond Gifford Zoo for inspiring our Atoms to help the environment and animals.
Tuesday, June 11, 2019—Our staff and faculty go above and beyond in many ways both inside and outside the classroom. From being involved in mentoring programs, active in their communities, they are true role models. We are excited to share with you our very own Dean of Students, Mr. Frisina was recognized for his contributions to both the students at Syracuse Academy of Science Citizenship, as well as, the families in the greater Syracuse community. Mr. Frisina was honored with Anointed Vision Ministry COGIC's Community Service Award. The award was presented by Pastor Earl Evans. Congratulations Mr. Frisina!
Wednesday, May 29, 2019—Positivity Night and a Book Fair, what more could an Atom ask for? As part of the Positivity Project, every Friday at Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship students gather together as a community to celebrate the 'Other People Matter' mindset. In efforts we aim to empower students to build positive relationships. During Positivity Night, Atoms have the opportunity to share and teach their parents how they are building those relationships. What's more, the book fair was also taking place and students were able to pick out their favorite books just in time for the summer.
Thursday, May 15, 2019—The best day ever was had at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Atoms put their exploring and adventure hats on while learning about over 600 animals representing over 200 species. The first stop was hiking the Wildlife Trail where they encountered Gray Wolves, Amur Tigers, Andean Bears and more. Next was exploring their feathered friends and then dropping in to see how the penguins were doing on the coast. Atoms took a break for lunch and chatted it up with some friendly flamingos. Thanks Onondaga County Parks and Rosamond Gifford Zoo for the best day ever!
Friday, May 17, 2019—"If you make a living doing something you love, you will never work a day in your life." - Tykeima Carmen, Crave Dessert Studio. Our third grade class had the privilege of Mrs. Carmen, founder and owner of Crave Dessert Studio, share her entrepreneurial success, as well as, read the story, "Froggy Bakes a Cake." Atoms learned the importance of perseverance, creativity and appreciation of beauty. Tykeima Carmen is an alumna of the Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School.
Wednesday, May 8, 2019—In honor of staff appreciation week, our Syracuse Academy of Science Citizenship Charter Elementary school Atoms volunteered to deliver delicious snacks and goodies to all of our teachers and staff. Words can't describe how much we value and are thankful for all of our teachers and staff. We appreciate everything you do to help continue to build success, one Atom at a time.
Friday, May 17, 2019—Lions, tigers, and bears … oh my! Our first grade class took a walk on the wild side and dare we say it, had a wild good time! The Wild Animal Park is a favorite field trip for many of our students. This zoo provides a unique opportunity for our Atoms to learn about a variety of animals ranging from domestic to exotic. One of the favorite animals amongst the scholars were the tigers and the Siamang Monkeys. They learned about how big the tigers were, as well as, the diet of the Siamang Monkey consists of mostly fruits and vegetables.
Friday, May 10, 2019—There is MUFFIN mom can't do! It's a time honored tradition at Syracuse Academy of Science Citizenship Charter Elementary school to celebrate the female figures in our Atom's lives with our Muffins with Mom event. Friday, May 10, 2019—All rise, court is now in session for the case regarding the Big Bad Wolf vs. the Three Little Pigs. The Big Bad Wolf may have been charged with two counts of blowing down houses, but the fate of both parties were in the hands of the Atoms in their mock trial. During their field trip to the U.S. District Courthouse, the third grade class received a hands on meaningful learning experience about the judicial system process. In addition, scholars saw how a border patrol dog works, and were able to have lunch with Honorable U.S. District Court Judge Sannes and many District Court Attorneys. Thank you to everyone at the U.S. District Courthouse for giving our Atoms an unforgettable meaningful experience.
