Second Grade Gets a Lesson in Engineering

On Monday, November 19, 2018, #SASCCS second graders took a field trip to the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University. Scholars learned about the roof, air flow and how the building workers swap the facility over from a football to basketball event. After the educational tour, our #SASAtoms loved exiting through the big doors the Monster Trucks enter through. Inspiring our students with real-life demonstrations of powerful feats of engineering is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

On Friday, November 16, 2018, #SASCCS Kindergartners made their own Pizza's. Kindergartners Take the ULTIMATE Field Trip

On Thursday, November 8, 2018, the #SASCCS kindergarten classes took a field trip to the Ultimate Goal. Throughout the day students worked on teamwork while they played dodgeball, soccer, swung on a rope swing, and played a game of tag. Its safe to say their day was filled with smiles and lots of laughs. Encouraging our #SASCAtoms to be active and work together as a team is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

Making a Difference this Socktober

On Friday, November 2, 2018. Mrs. Touranjoe and Ms. Holgate delivered the socks that were donated by the Citizenship Academy for Socktober. The adult socks were brought to the Golisano Foundation and the children's socks were brought to the Children's Consortium. In total, our school collected 342 pairs of socks to families in need (162 adult socks and 180 children socks)! We hope that these socks will change the world one pair at a time!

Nursing Home Visit with #SASCCS

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, the #SASCCS second grade #SASCAtoms went to McHarrie Life Senior Community Syracuse Home to visit the elderly. The students read books to the ladies and gentlemen of Syracuse Home. Our #SASCAtoms listened to a story and a song by the staff and residents there. The students were invited to share the music they were working on in Music class, and they did so loudly and proudly. The students and people of the Syracuse Home enjoyed their time together and would love to do it again in the future. These community visits are one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

#SASCCS is a Positivity Project School

Every Friday at #SASCCS the whole school gathers together as a community to celebrate the #OtherPeopleMatter mindset. #SASCCS is a participating Positivity Project school, a project aimed at empowering students to build positive relationships. In our P2 meetings, we discuss the week's focus character strength and recognize students and staff who we have seen demonstrate the highlighted strength. After cheering and celebrating for our fellow #SASCAtoms, we all participate in a fun dance party to mark the end of another fantastic week. Ask your child about our weekly Positivity Projects Meetings, and see what they have to say about curiosity, teamwork, and open-mindedness.

Helping Hounds Visits #SASCCS First-Grade

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Helping Hounds dog rescue visited #SASCCS. They taught our #SASCAtoms about interacting with dogs and petting them the right way. The students each had a turn asking the owner for permission and then petting the dog, and learned a song about ways to approach a dog and when to leave a dog alone. These life skills are just one of the many ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.

Back to School Night at #SASCCS

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, #SASCCS students, families and staff came together for Back to School Night. Our #SASCAtoms enjoyed taking their families on a scavenger hunt through the school. The best part of the evening was sampling foods from all of our #SASAtoms diverse cultures. We appreciate everyone's enthusiastic participation and look forward to more events like this. Together we are building success one ATOM at a time.

#SASCCS Invades Beak & Skiff

On Wednesday, September 19 and Thursday, September 20, 2018, the third and first graders, respectively, from #SASCCS visited the Beak and Skiff Apple Hill Campus. After learning about how their apples are produced, the students were given a chance to pick their very own apples. Following this, the group was able to play on the playground, eat donuts and enjoy some fresh apple cider. It was the perfect start to the Fall Season.
