On Friday, November 30, 2018, the third graders at #SASCCS attended a field trip to the Johnson Art Museum at Cornell University. While there, the students learned an authentic African dance, created animal clay figures, and explored the gallery of masks and artifacts. After learning about various African cultures students spent time comparing them to the similarities and differences in their own lives.
On Monday, November 19, 2018, #SASCCS second graders took a field trip to the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University. Scholars learned about the roof, air flow and how the building workers swap the facility over from a football to basketball event. After the educational tour, our #SASAtoms loved exiting through the big doors the Monster Trucks enter through. Inspiring our students with real-life demonstrations of powerful feats of engineering is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Thursday, October 25, 2018, Michael Affinito, founder of Via Napoli Express came into #SASCCS to talk to students about his business. Affinito discussed the value of having a dream and chasing that dream with our #SASCAtoms. He also talked about how to become a business owner, and of course, showed us how to make delicious pizza.
On Friday, November 2, 2018. Mrs. Touranjoe and Ms. Holgate delivered the socks that were donated by the Citizenship Academy for Socktober. The adult socks were brought to the Golisano Foundation and the children's socks were brought to the Children's Consortium. In total, our school collected 342 pairs of socks to families in need (162 adult socks and 180 children socks)! We hope that these socks will change the world one pair at a time!
On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, the #SASCCS second grade #SASCAtoms went to McHarrie Life Senior Community Syracuse Home to visit the elderly. The students read books to the ladies and gentlemen of Syracuse Home. Our #SASCAtoms listened to a story and a song by the staff and residents there. The students were invited to share the music they were working on in Music class, and they did so loudly and proudly. The students and people of the Syracuse Home enjoyed their time together and would love to do it again in the future. These community visits are one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, #SASCCS students, families and staff came together for Back to School Night. Our #SASCAtoms enjoyed taking their families on a scavenger hunt through the school. The best part of the evening was sampling foods from all of our #SASAtoms diverse cultures. We appreciate everyone's enthusiastic participation and look forward to more events like this. Together we are building success one ATOM at a time.
