We will never forget

Science Academies of New York (SANY) honors and remembers those whose lives were tragically changed 21 years ago today and thanks the first responders. United, we stand!

Sunday, September 11th, 2022—It’s hard to believe that 21 years ago to this day, our lives tragically changed. Many of us know where we were when we heard the news that day. Some of us heard it on the radio or watched the news that morning. While others may have heard the news from a coworker or a family member, or a friend. A day in history that we will never forget.

Today, we mourn those who lost their lives and grieved with those who lost friends and family. We would like to take this moment to thank all our brave first responders and those who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. United, we stand.

SANY Superintendent Dr. Hayali’s Welcome Message

SANY Superintendent Dr. Hayali’s Welcome Message

Dear SANY Families,

Welcome to another exciting school year at Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School! It’s hard to believe that it is already the first week of school. It seems like yesterday I was giving the commencement address at the graduation ceremonies and seeing pictures of the Atoms at their Kindergarten graduation and moving up ceremonies. For all the new and returning families, I would like to take this time to say welcome to the Science Academies of New York (SANY) Charter Schools!

It is an incredible privilege to be a part of a community where students, parents, teachers, faculty, and staff care so much for one another and strive to build positive relationships that support academic success. All while encouraging students to become good stewards in the community and helping strengthen and develop character skills and traits that will help students be successful beyond the classroom walls.

The first week of school is always a favorite time of mine as it's a fresh start for all of us. It’s a time of year when we build upon what we have learned in years past and begin the climb in our journey to reach our goals for this upcoming year. There is nothing we can’t achieve when we work together.

While we may not know what this school year will bring, one thing will always remain certain. We are many Atoms, one family, and we can accomplish anything.

Let’s do this!

Regards,

Dr. Tolga Hayali, Ed.D

Monday, June 20th, 2022In observance of Juneteenth, there will be no school on Monday, June 20th. We look forward to welcoming back the Atoms on Tuesday, June 21st.

For those not familiar with Juneteenth, it commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The origins of the commemoration date back to June 19th,1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, first heard that the Civil War had ended, and they were free. Juneteenth gets its name from a combination of June and nineteenth and is also known as Black Independence Day, Juneteenth Independence Day, and Emancipation Day.

Enjoy your long weekend, Atoms!

School Message: EBT Food Benefits Information

SANY shares a message regarding EBT Food Benefits information, updates to the Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) distribution, and where to find additional information.

Thursday, June 16th, 2022As the 2021 - 2022 school year closes, many families have inquired about Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT), Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

New York State continues to distribute P-EBT food benefits to all households with eligible children who receive free school lunches under the National School Lunch Act. Here are significant updates to the distribution as of Monday, June 13th, 2022.

  • The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) is distributing Summer 2021 P-EBT food benefits to eligible students that are NOT part of a SNAP or Public Assistance household.
  • OTDA will continue distributing Summer P-EBT benefits in batches throughout June to eligible children in SNAP or Public Assistance households or who received their P-EBT food benefits for the 2020 -2021 school year on a Medicaid card.
  • Each eligible student will receive $375 in food benefits.
  • Recipient households should receive a text message alert when their food benefits are distributed. Families can check the website, www.connectebt.com, to see if the summer benefit was deposited.
  • Nearly all eligible children throughout New York State who had their in-person attendance reduced during the 2020 - 2021 school year due to the pandemic have been issued their P-EBT food benefits. You can check your family's P-EBT food benefit transaction history by visiting www.connectebt.com or calling 1-888-328-6399.

As a school district, please note that we are not involved with distributing the EBT, P-EBT, or SNAP funds. All the necessary reporting was submitted at the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, we do not have any additional information and cannot answer any parent calls regarding P-EBT; therefore, calls do not need to be forwarded to the District Office.

For any additional information, please visit www.connectebt.com or call 1-888-328-6399
