Throwback Thursday: The Story of 'Flat Teacher'

Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship school teachers create ‘Flat Teachers’ for their students to show that even though we are apart during this time we are still connected.

Friday, November 6th, 2020The classic children’s story, Flat Stanley written by Jeff Brown was the inspiration behind the creative idea of two Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship teachers, Mrs. Kippa and Ms. Mays. Back in October, the two teachers were missing their students terribly and hearing about all their fun adventures they would have outside of school. To help alleviate this and to make the students feel a sense of connection, they sent their Atoms ‘Flat Teachers,’ with a note that read:

Hey There Students!

We’re missing you terribly and thought there maybe some adventures you could share with us. Invite the ‘Flat Teachers’ to join you for your daily routines, like when you play outside, or need a break from your screens. I wish we could be together and we could give you a hug or a high five. But these ‘Flat Teachers’ will have to do for the meantime. Know wherever you go and wherever you play, we will always be your teachers no matter how far away.
